Pitching ideas at #codethecity in Edinburgh.
With over 30 folk here we had a great time using the Code the City cards to discuss different cycling ideas. we discussed how to get people to cycle, and the proof on this, from showing safe routes, to improving health. We heard from Dutch students about how cycling is much easier in Holland, and how residents are encouraged to cycle by making driving more difficult in the city. Another group discussed what stops you cycling and was suggesting offering an appointment app for bike shops to help with servicing.
It was only 30 minutes but we covered a lot of ground!
We now have five team formed after lots of discussion and a few projects merging together:
Gamify biodiversity – encourage people to record species – plants, animals – by awarding points and possible prizes!
‘Shower the city ’ – providing shower points to encourage more cycling in the city
Robot litter bins – they respond when you post litter!
Land Revival – use derelict and vacancy land for growing
Market place – a community workplace
It’s been great to see everyone mixing together, sharing their ideas and then merging them. Some are local developers with ideas they have wanted to try out for awhile, but we also have students from Holland and young people from Edinburgh Prewired. It’s an exciting mix!
