World Open Data Day 2021

Wikidata Taster Session

UPDATE: A write-up of this event can be found on this blogpost.

On World Open Data Day, Saturday 6th March 2021, we’ll be running an introduction to Wikidata and showing how to use it to generate and link open data.

We’ll use the theme of Aberdeen’s Industrial heritage as a subject – but it could be anything. Once you know how to use Wikidata you can run your own projects.

We’ll aim to cover:

  • Sourcing data
  • Manipulating and enhancing data in Google Sheets
  • Using Google sheets plugins,
  • Uploading data
  • Querying Wikidata to return data that we can resuse

For this session you’ll need a pc and a Wikidata account – that’s all.

The session, which will be completely online using Zoom, will run from 10am to 1pm, so it shouldn’t eat into your weekend too much.

We’ll post more info and useful resources here in the run up to the event.

If you sign up you’ll get a reply with a link to the CTC Slack group where you can discuss this session – before during and after the event.

If you are attending please sign up for an account at Wikidata (or if you have one from Wikipedia sign in with that) before the Saturday Session.

You’ll also get a link to the Zoom call.

Tickets are free (although we do ask you to consider a small donation to help with the charity’s admin overhead costs.

Book now.
